# Experiment ideas

> Let ABlyft Lumen suggest test ideas, then sort them into a backlog of accepted, rejected and already tested ideas.

Not sure what to test next? **Experiment Ideas** is your backlog of test ideas for a project. ABlyft Lumen, the AI
assistant of ABlyft, generates ideas for a page of your website, including a hypothesis and a first estimate of effort,
risk and confidence. You decide which ideas to follow up on.

> **AI features must be enabled:** Experiment Ideas is part of the AI features. If your team has switched them off, the menu item **Experiment Ideas**
> is not shown. An owner of the team can enable the features in the team settings. See
> [Roles & permissions](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/projects-and-teams/roles-and-permissions/).

## Open the idea list

In your project, open **Utilities → Experiment Ideas**. The number next to the menu item shows how many ideas the project
has. The list is split into tabs:

| Tab | Shows |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **All (new and accepted) ideas** | Everything you may still want to test. This is the default tab. |
| **New ideas** | Ideas you have not looked at yet. |
| **Accepted ideas** | Ideas you want to test. |
| **Rejected ideas** | Ideas you decided against. |
| **Already tested ideas** | Ideas you have already tested. |

## Generate new ideas

1. Click **Generate new ideas** (or the same button in the empty list).

2. Fill in the form:

   | Field | Description |
   | ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
   | **URL** | The page or website you want to improve, with the full URL, for example `https://example.com/product`. It must start with your project's domain. |
   | **Main goal** | What you want to improve, for example **More Sales**, **More Leads**, **Higher Average Order Value**, **More Add to Cart**, **Higher Conversion Rate**, **More Registrations**, **More Clicks**, **Lower Bounce Rate**, **Improve Funnel Progression** or **Increase Revenue per Visitor**. |
   | **Experiment type** | **Content (Visual Editor / Redirect)** for changes of copy and images, or **Feature (Development / Code)** for new features that have to be developed. Choose what fits your skills. |
   | **Target audience** | Who the experiment is for, for example "First-time visitors" (3 to 48 characters). Default is "All". |

3. Click **Generate new ideas**.

ABlyft Lumen creates up to five new ideas per run. Ideas that already exist in your list are not added again.

Generating ideas uses AI credits of your team. If the credits are used up, or you reached the idea limit of your plan,
the form tells you so and the button is disabled. In this case, contact ABlyft to extend your plan.

## What an idea contains

Click an idea in the list to open it. You see:

* the **status**, the experiment **type**, the **URL**, the **target audience** and the **main goal**,
* a short description of the idea,
* a **hypothesis** in the form "If … then … because …",
* the **goals** that would show whether the idea works,
* the three scores **Effort**, **Risk** and **Confidence**, each **low**, **medium** or **high**, with a short reason.

| Score | Meaning | Good value |
| -------------- | --------------------------------- | ---------- |
| **Effort** | Implementation effort of the test | low |
| **Risk** | Risk level of the test | low |
| **Confidence** | Confidence in the expected impact | high |

Use the scores to prioritize: an idea with low effort, low risk and high confidence is a good first candidate. The
scores are an estimate, not a forecast. You know your website and customers best.

In the list, you can sort and filter by the columns, for example with the filters **Status**, **Effort**, **Risk**,
**Confidence** and **Main goal**. Ideas are grouped by status by default.

## Sort your ideas

Open an idea and choose one of the actions at the bottom:

| Action | Result |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Accept idea** | Status **Accepted**: you want to test it. |
| **Reject idea** | Status **Rejected**. You have to enter a **Reason** (at least 10 characters), for example "We can't change our corporate design". |
| **Idea already tested** | Status **Tested**: you have run this test before. |

New ideas have the status **New**. ABlyft Lumen uses your rejection reasons when it generates further ideas, so the
suggestions fit your project better over time. Members, admins and owners can change the status of ideas.

## From idea to experiment

An idea is not turned into an experiment automatically. Take your accepted idea as the plan and
[create the experiment](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/experiments/create-experiment/) yourself. After you have run the test, mark the idea as
**Idea already tested**.
