# Goals & measurement

> Define what counts as success, and check that ABlyft actually measures it.

A goal tells ABlyft what counts as success in an experiment: a visited page, a click, a sign-up or a purchase with a
value. Without a goal, an experiment collects participants but has nothing to compare. This section shows you how to
create goals, which goal type to pick, and how to check that events really arrive before you rely on the results.

- [Configure goals](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/goals-and-measurement/configure-goals/): Create a goal, link it to a page and assign it to an experiment. The first goal is the primary goal.
- [Goal types](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/goals-and-measurement/goal-types/): Pageview, click, custom and revenue goals, plus counting, direction and value filters.
- [Verify measurement](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/goals-and-measurement/verify-measurement/): Use the Live Log and the preview tools to check that events arrive.

Goals are defined once per project and can be reused in many experiments. To see how goals are turned into numbers,
read [Metrics](https://docs.ablyft.com/guides/results/metrics/).
